Trauma Therapy

Do you feel like life is so much harder than it needs to be? Like so much of your daily energy is focused on just trying to keep your head above water? Maybe you know exactly why you are struggling and you can pinpoint the moment when the trauma happened.

And, maybe you can’t. Your childhood wasn’t great but don’t other people have it much worse? You think, maybe I’m just too sensitive or weak.

Trauma is not just big, distressing events in life such as car accidents or abuse. Trauma can be any event, big or “small” (it’s never really small). Trauma is" “not the story of something that happened back then, but the current imprint of that pain, horror, and fear living inside [the individual] “ (Bessel Van Der Kolk).

Sometimes that means big, distressing events that invade our minds without our consent. Other times, trauma is an accumulation of little things that happened, or didn’t happen, that eventually caused us to feel completely overwhelmed- such as being emotionally neglected or consistently criticized by our caregivers. Our bodies don’t care if something sounds traumatic. These experiences can be just damaging.

Trauma affects us in ways that we might not even be able to identify. It makes us feel trapped, afraid, insecure. It births in us negative beliefs about ourselves that affect all areas of our life. We begin to question ourselves and others.

Healing is possible.

At Inner Refuge Therapy, we use a range of different therapeutic modalities to help you heal. However, we center around interventions that help connect you to your body and help you to release your trauma.

One such modality is Brain Synchronization Therapy (BST). BST is very similar to EMDR and it uses eye movement to help you fully process and release your trauma. Throughout therapy Somatic Psychology interventions are used to help you connect to your body and feel your emotions.

If you have been thinking about getting to the root of your pain and starting your healing journey, the best time to start is now.
