Family Therapy

You can’t put your finger on when it happened. Whether it happened quickly or slowly. But somewhere along the line, your relationship with your child changed. They began to act out more often. Maybe they’ve withdrawn from you.

Feeling disconnected and confused by your child’s behavior can happen for a variety of reasons. Maybe they’ve experienced a traumatic or stressful life event and have not been able to fully process it. Maybe your child is triggering your own trauma or reminding you of your own difficult childhood. Whatever the reason, family therapy is a great option to help repair your relationship and reconnect your family.

Family therapy can have a bad reputation. Often it is seen as a time of arguing about what is wrong. And, while acknowledging the issues in a relationship is important, much of the focus in family therapy is creating the opportunities for families to celebrate what is right in their relationship. Family therapy focuses on identifying the source of the disconnect and helping parents learn how to communicate effectively with their children. We use Attachment Focused Family Therapy to help heal attachment ruptures that are common in families. At Inner Refuge, we want to help create moments of happiness, laughter, and emotional validation that may have been missing for far too long.
